The Farm

At Blue Hill

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.”
John Muir

At Blue Hill we take our impact seriously – only natural fertilizers are used —- coffee grounds, eggs shells, worm castings, fish fertilizer and banana peels are added to the soil.

Spring 2017

The apiary is set up

With the help of our Farm Manager the hives were set up.

Spring 2018

Organic growing starts

Our Farm Manager hand built cedar beds and the planting began…heirloom tomatoes, peppers, squash and herbs…..then came the deer and the groundhogs and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of rain…while the Farm Manager did not find the ground hogs or deer eating the heirlooms amusing I did!…. somehow they knew I wanted to instagram them and I was never able to capture a shot!

Spring 2019

Chicken Coop

The Chicken Coop is was completed in 2019 BUT we quickly realized how fun chickens AND ducks are and expanded the coop to be able to have a variety of chicken breeds and four Khaki Camel ducks.

I attended my first chicken keeping class at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter as we are committed to safe and healthy birds.
